Posted on Tue, 16 Jun 2015
Question: I have a small, persistent hemmorhoid that becomes painful and uncomfortable after all bowel movements. Can I use tacrolimus ointment to see the discomfort?

I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO FIND OAK BARK SOLD IN ORAL CAPSULE FORM. SHOULD I DISSOLVE THE CAPSULES IN THE SITZ BATH? IF SO, HOW MANY CAPSULES?

Brief Answer:
Cannot use tacrolimus in hemorrhoids...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

1. It is normal to have pain and an uncomfortable feeling after bowel movements while having a small persistent hemorrhoid.

2. The very first thing to treat the hemorrhoids is diet:
- increase water intake
- take more fiber rich foods
- fiber supplements can help (e.g. Psyllium)
- short term use of laxatives (senna) and stool softeners (lactulose)

3. Tacrolimus ointment is not used for hemorrhoids, so I highly recommend not to use it.

4. With regards to local treatment, preparation H cream is a good solution. You can dissolve oak bark in sitz bath hoping it will give relief.

Again, I still think if you help softening your stool and avoiding constipation, the hemorrhoid won't give a problem.

Hope it was of help!
