Can Lower Ureteric Calculus Pass Into The Bladder?

Question: I have a stone in my ureter. Refer attached report My question is will this pass through urine or will require a procedure. for eg ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy or anything you may suggest

Hello XXXX and welcome to HCM.
Well your concern is understandable.
A lower ureteric calculus, which is not very large sized, just at junction of bladder and ureter, may very well pass into the bladder. You may try a conservative approach ( non-surgical), for about two weeks.
You should be drinking about 15 glasses--3 litres of liquids daily.
Your doctor may give you a medication like magnessium, potassium citrate tablets or syrup, to be taken twice daily. It helps in dissolving the stone.
After two or three weeks of medication, repeat just an ultrasound scan.( not a CT-scan), to know if the stone has flushed off.

In my span of 25 years as an Urologist, i've seen stones almost double the size of your stone, flush out with medication.
The main indication, to intervene with ureteroscopic-lithotripsy, is an impacted stone with block of the kidney, which gives rise to symptoms like,
1. severe pain, not relieved with medication.
2.recurrent vomitting.
3. Bleeding in urine.
4. stone in a single kidney, causing obstruction with kidney failure.

Thanks doc. This is the third time i am experiencing stones. First was in year 2008. I passed it out. Second was in 2014. Size was 9mm. Had ureterscopy done. And now the third one in XXXXXXX 2015 on the right. What are the possible causes of recurring stones? Is it water intake or diet or both? Is there any test that can be done to determine the type of stones. How can you prevent recurring stones?

You're a stone former. You should maintain 12-15 glasses of liquids daily.
In diet, you should avoid milk as such, and take dairy products occasionally.
Check your calcium, phosphorus, uric acid levels in blood. Also check, 24 hours urine calcium, phosphorus and uric acid levels. Treatment for prevention, will depend on the reports.
Stone analysis is another test, which gives us an idea about type of stone.

Just to let you know that I passed a stone this morning. Appears to be 4mm in size. Thanks for all the advice. Hope I had one and it has passed through.

In my CT scan report you must have seen a small cyst. Is there anything to worry for now?
