Since then i have not gone.
Brief Answer:
Side effect of using Minocin....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Minocin is an antibiotic that can hopefully, treat your prostatitis successfully. One of the side effects of antibiotics is alternation of normal bowel flora (dysbacteriosis). Constipation and alternating diarrhea are the signs of dysbacteriosis.
When constipated, the stool becomes harder. During a bowel movement, the hard stool lacerates the rectal mucosa, showing up with burning sensation and/or bleeding.
I advise to:
- start taking probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- drink more water and juices
- take fiber supplements and lactulose to soften the stool
- discuss with your doctor to start antifungal therapy. I usually prescribe Nystatin to my patients with the same problems as you.
Normally, such symptoms will disappear once you will stop Minocin.
Wish fast recovery!

Ok. So the Nystatin in addition to the minocin? And do u think the problem is fungal? I've read that less than 10% are fungal. I also wanted to add that i do get the seb derm on my glans.
Brief Answer:
Stool culture will determine the real problems...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I usually prescribe Nystatin and Metronidazole in addition to antibiotic use in my patients who get the same problems as yours. Probiotics are also added, thus, symptoms are well controlled.
Culture of stool would determine if it is fungal or other opportunistic bacteria.
Having seborrhoic dermatitis on your glans has nothing to do with the other GI symptoms you are having. The causes of seb-derm is unclear, although skin fungus are blamed. Combination steroid and anti-fungal cream is usually prescribed followed by shampooing with anti-fungal shampoo twice a week as preventive measure.
Please follow your dermatologist advice for specific treatment suitable for your case.
