Brief Answer:
You can have sex, bathe, and do normal activities immediately

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I would be happy to answer your question today.

The Mirena is effective immediately after insertion, and so you can have sex right away, bathe, and do any of your normal activities. However, you may experience some spotting and cramping if you start strenuous activity right away, though it is not harmful. Any pain reliever you normally take for menstrual cramps should relieve any discomfort.

You should follow up with your provider to check the position of the IUD and the string about a month.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
