Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: hello doctor,

I am a 28 y/o heterosexual white male. about 24-36 hours ago I had unprotected vaginal and oral sex several times with a heterosexual female of unknown status but who hasn't reported any stds to me. I am mostly concerned with the risk of hiv transmission in this incident. I'm HIV negative prior to this exposure and haven't had any other exposures. Should I consider post exposure prophylaxis? I will do testing as indicated.

Brief Answer:
Start Prophylaxis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about the possibility of HIV.

If you think woman is possible HIV candidate , it is better to start prophylaxis as soon as possible.

You can test for HIV only after 6 months to be very sure. Till then other tests won't give accurate results.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya
