Can Post Nasal Drip Cause Chest Congestion And Heart Palpitations?
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome back on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that postnasal drip may be an important cause of chronic cough, but could rarely lead to chest congestion.
Excessive mucus secretion by dripping through lower part of respiratory airway would secondarily induce cough and potentially episodes of sinus tachycardia, if coughing is severe and frequent. But these episodes of tachycardia are transient and harmless.
So, nothing to worry about!
Properly treating chronic rhinosinusitis with antibiotics, antihistamines, topical corticosteroids, antifungal drugs (depending on the responsible factor) normal saline irrigation, and avoidance of predisposing factors would lead to decrease of secretion production, minimizing thus the subsequent symptoms.
So, I would like to reassure you again that postnasal drip generally is benign and could hardly cause any adverse complications on cardiac functioning.
Hope to have been helpful to you!
Feel free to ask me again in case of any further uncertainties.
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
