Is there some other avenue that we should be exploring? My wife is in a good deal of pain, and her geriatric M.D. cancelled her appointment tomorrow (labs not in). Should we go to the next level of care?
Brief Answer:
a doctor should confirm the diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment
Detailed Answer:
In shingles instituting the right (antiviral) treatment promptly reduces the time for symptom resolution. She should be examined by a doctor to confirm the diagnosis (or suggest an alternative diagnosis) and prescribe appropriate treatment. If it's a common location of shingles attack (for example the 1st branch of trigeminal nerve) then the diagnosis would be straightforward.
