Can Smoking Cause Eustachian Tube Blockage?
Question: can cocaine or smoking block Eustachian tubes and cause ears to ring and pop? my ears pop and crackle every time i swallow
Hello,
Thanks for posting the query.
Usually popping and crackling in the ears is caused due to partial or complete blockage of the eustacian tubes.
This obstruction can be caused by several factors like
1. Allergy
2. Sinus infection
3.Upper respiratory tract infection
4.Smoking.
Smoking can cause damage to the cilia inside the tubes and hence the blockage.
I would advise to abstain from smoking completely and also consult ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist for detailed ear examination so that damage if any can be ruled out.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available for the follow up queries if any.
