Is It Safe To Take Clarithromycin During Pregnancy?
I am a 29 yr old female 19 weeks pregant with my 3rd child, I have a sinus infection and the doctor I seen prescribed me clarithromycin 500mg. he said it would be fine to take but when I read the side effects and stuff it said only take if no other antibiotic was able to be taken. I am alittle concerned about taking this now, Is is safe to take while pregnant?
Clarithromycin is a category C drug during pregnancy, which means that there may be potential risks associated with its use, but the benefits may outweigh the risks. The use of antibiotics during pregnancy should always be approached with caution and only be prescribed when necessary to treat a bacterial infection that can cause harm to both the mother and the developing fetus. Your doctor likely prescribed clarithromycin because the potential benefits of treating your sinus infection outweigh the potential risks.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
