Can Sports Activities Be Resumed After Finishing Dosage Of Z-pak For Pneumonia?
Question: My 14 year old daughter just finished her Z pack for pneumonia yesterday and wants to go to soccer practice, I'm feeling that its to soon and to much how long should she wait before we send her back to practice?
Brief Answer:
Pneumonia-convalescence
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Young patients without comorbidity do well and usually recover from pneumonia fully after ~2 weeks, though Chest radiographic abnormalities are slowest to resolve and may require 4–12 weeks to clear, with the speed of clearance depending on the patient's age and underlying lung disease.
Z pack(azithromycin) promotes irregular heartbeats in patients with risk factors for heart disease.
One can resume rigorous physical activities like soccer practice after full clinical and radiological recovery from documented pneumonia.
