Question: Can stress cause hyperinsulina ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Mechanism of excess insulin production

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
We discussed about how stress can cause hyper insulinemia earlier. It is a complicated mechanism.

Chronic stress can rise the levels of counter regulatory hormones like Cortisol, Epinephrine, norepinephrine etc. This will cause abnormal insulin secretion which leads to abnormal glucose regulation.. This altered physiology can induce insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.

Hyperinsulinemia is a body's response to all the above stated hormonal response in an effort to normalize blood glucose levels.

Brief Answer:
possible

Detailed Answer:
Your Hba1c and post prandial glucose levels are normal. In fact HbA1c is bit on lower side. If there is hyperinsulinemia, sugar levels can be normal or low hut at the expense of hyperinsulinemia

What are other possible causes? Stress?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Binu Parameswaran Pillai (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
other causes

Detailed Answer:
Chronic stress is one factor. There are other important causes like Nesidioblastosis, islet cell tumours, insulinoma etc in which there is hyperinsulinemia. These are extremely rare. As an endocrinologist i have hardly seen around 10 cases so far.

In these coditions, one would develop frequent hypoglycemic episodes.
