Question: Can tetanus be found in household dust?
My 8.5 month old son is on a delayed vaccine schedule for personal reasons. He has not yet received the DTaP. Tonight we were at my grandparents house and i noticed a scratch by his eyebrow that looks like it was caused by his finger nail. Shortly after i was looking at the white couch that we'd been sitting on and there was dust all over it. He had been rubbing his hands on the arm of the couch but i don't know if it was before or after he got the scratch.
Ive read that tetanus can be found in dust but i didnt know if it was referring to household dust.

Tetanus can be found in household dust and a wound over the eyebrows is a break in the skin good enough to cause infection. However please do not panic, he is what you should do
1. Wash the area well with water and anti septic solution
2. Do not cover the area with any band aid
3. Watch out for high grade fever
I recommend vaccination with tetanus toxoid as soon as possible, it usually gives protection upto 5 years from the time of immunisation

My grandparents didnt have any peroxide, but i was able to put some on the scrape about an hour after i noticed it.
This happened friday night and i cant get in with his doctor until monday. Would that be too long to wait for the shot?

I dont think its too long a wait if he is not showing any symptoms. He should do well. Please get the vaccination done on Monday, it will protect him for the next 5 years to come
