Can Turmeric Be Used To Treat Severe Arthritis?
Question: Dear Doctor, I have seen a TV program advocating the use of Turmeric to assist arthritis sufferers. They advised, see your doctor before starting. I would like your advice please.
I have severe arthritis in my right hip. My medical history is as follows, Breast cancer with mastectomy 3 1/2 years ago, Prostate cancer 2 1/2 years ago. Two coronary stents 6 weeks ago. My prescribed medication is 1 tamoxifen tablet, and 1 aspirin ( 100 mg). and 1 Lercan tablet daily. I also take some vitamin tablets. My age is 82 years. Doctors have suggested that I may need a hip replacement. Do you suggest that Turmeric is a safe and worthwhile trial? Thanks for your help. XXXXXXX

I have read your query regarding use of turmeric for your hip arthritis.
Turmeric is known to have anti inflammatory properties and it's use is supposed to reduce the pain,inflammation and stiffness associated with osteo as well as rheumatoid arthritis,however I can not say how much effective it would be for you.
You can easily use it without any worry and see the response yourself.
Avoid very heavy doses as it can thin your blood and may cause bleeding.
Don't leave any of your other medications as advised by the doctor.
