Can Twitching Of Nose, Biceps, Thigh And Thumb Be Symptoms Of Rabies?

Question: Can twitching of my nose, biceps, thigh and thumb be symptoms of rabies. Got bit 10 weeks ago. Am having these twitches and also sometimes my jaw feels funny. I have had these twitches for weeks now. The dog was vaccinated two days before the bite and I was told by my physician that I didn't need the vaccine due to the condition of the wound and the status of the dog. Am really scared now. I need a doctor who would have time to explain this very well to me . Thanks

Dear Sir,

I assume you did not get appropriate vaccination after being bitten by dog.

The incubation period of rabies (defined as the interval between virus exposure and onset of clinical disease) is usually 1–3 months but in rare cases is as short as 2 weeks or >1 year. The incubation period in dogs is somewhat shorter than in human. If the dog which has bitten you is still alive and healthy, its unlikely to have had rabies.
The symptoms which you are experiencing are not typical of Rabies symptoms.

Clinically apparent rabies infection begins with nonspecific prodromal symptoms, including fever, malaise, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Anxiety or agitation may also occur. Paresthesias, pain, or pruritus near the site of the exposure occurs in 50–80% of patients and suggests rabies.

Even though the symptoms are not typical of Rabies, a thorough clinical examination by your Physician is definitely called for.

Is it possible to get infected if your trash was messed up by raccoons and you decided to clear it up the next morning with a minor cut on your hand.

How about heartburns, slight head aches, as well as feeling like my brain is pushing against my skull. I also have a lot of hiccups and slight pain in my thighs,arm and back. They don't last long tho. They come and go. i also have this bitter taste in my mouth. I sometimes feel like my mind is playing tricks on me.

Heart burns, hiccups are unrelated to bite. The cause of symptoms is likely to be due to gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Stress , associated gastritis could be cause of odd sensation in brain.

I would suggest you the following

1. Avoid alcohol and excess caffeine beverage
2. Avoid sleeping or lying down immediately after food.
3. Combination of Pantoprozole and Domperidone will be helpful : To Be taken for 15 days
4. Empirical Helicobacter Pylori eradication: H Pylori eradication kit like Ulcikit or HP kit , one kit per day for 10 days will prevent recurrence
5. Regular exercise
6. Consume food on time.

I also feel this inconsistent beat in my julugar at times. It gets me scared and I don't know if it's a muscle spasm in the throat or the julugar.

Ear blockade is likely to be due to Eustachian tube blockade. Chewing chewing gum or valsalva maneur will be helpful in relieving the blockade.
Rabies usually produces symptoms at site of bite and generalized symptoms. Ear blockade is not a symptom of Rabies.
I am practicing Physician in " Republic of India" . Its very unusual to have incubation period of greater than 4 weeks. Majority of times it ranges between 10 to 25 days. So regarding your case there is no cause for concern.

Also I feel this discomfort in my throat when there is noise from the tap or something but when I shower there is no discomfort. Are there signs to watch out before the manifestation of throat spasms?

I understand your concern completely. Do always remember rabies spread through raccoons is no very common. Also the incident you have mentioned above has taken place almost 12 weeks back. In case if you were exposed, by now you will have had full blown manifestation of symptoms of rabies. What symptoms you are currently experiencing is unrelated to rabies and are very minor symptoms.

Hence now please relax. You are completely safe. There is no use of any vaccination currently.

I heard the incubation can be more than 12 weeks. I have been having these bubble bursting sounds in my nose and I hear it can be rhinitis which is associated with rabies . Can u please enlighten me on the symptoms and how often they begin because most of the rabies cases reported here in he US began after 3 month. Also I need you to enlighten me since XXXXXXX doctors have more knowledge on the rabies virus

When we speak of incubation period, we speak about average incubation period. Only on rare occasions is incubation period more than 12 weeks.
Bubbling and bursting sound in nose is not symptom typical for Rabies. I would not normally recommend vaccination in your case.
In rare cases the incubation period may range in months and due to your fear associated with Rabies, I would suggest you to go ahead with vaccination. Any protection is better than no protection.

I had this strange headache about 2 months ago. Was very severe and lasted for about 10 seconds . It was followed by sinus feeling right above my nose the area between my eyes. This happened again last 2 weeks but was around my forehead. I don't sleep well also. Wake up about 3-5 times before I finally wake. And also my hand sometimes gets stiff and it takes about 5 seconds before I open it up. This occurs occasionally tho.
