Can Untreated Diabetes Put Aneurysm At A Greater Risk?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Oct 2017
Question: Dr. XXXXXXX I have not had any more numbness/pain in my right arm. However, i was diagnosed 5 years ago with a fusiform aneurysm behind my left eye. I have never had any symptoms. I was told that if I in fact have type II diabetes and am not obtaining treatment, that it puts the aneurysm at a greater risk for something bad to happen. what do you think?

Brief Answer:
Diabetes leads to angiopathy due to accumulation of 'advanced glycated prod

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome back,

Yes, Diabetes leads to angiopathy that is involvement of blood vessels due to accumulation of 'advanced glycated products' if it is uncontrolled. This can exacerbate your aneurysm.

But you do not have Diabetes. So do not worry.
But do follow up regularly as to the size --frequency of check up depends on advise by your opthalmic surgeon.
Anytime he feels the size is increasing, he may want to burn it with laser. If it remains constant, I am sure he will want to leave it alone
