Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Will dylantin shorten your lifespan. I am 56 years old, smoke, have had two aneurysms and two seizures so am on Dylantin for the seizures. I do not drink. I also have sleep apnea. I am scared will the dylantin shorten my life span? I am 5ft six inches and 132 pounds. I am on pills for high blood pressure and 60 mils of cytalopram per day. Please answer
Dilantin is a medicine that has been used for decades and is safe if managed by a medical professional. Getting routine blood work is recommended. Monitoring your mood and seeing a dentist routinely are also recommended. This is a safe medication and generally well-tolerated though. It should not shorten your lifespan and would help since it would aid in preventing further dangerous seizures.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
