Can Violent Sneezing Cause A Hiatal Hernia?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 May 2017
Question: Can violent sneezing from a cat allergy cause a hiatal hernia. We have a cat. When I worked full time in my office we managed with allergy meds. Now I work from home office and suffer with all the pet allergy symptoms. I have violent sneezing, watery itchy eyes and lots of mucous. Now I have serious gas and bloating and found a small vertical bump in the middle of my chest. Becomes prominent when I sit up to get out of bed. Just a little soreness as well.

Can this be a laparoscopic procedure? I have a factor 11 coagulopathy so I need to take Novo 7 for any major surgery.

Brief Answer:
Abdominal hernia is the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

The lump you have noticed is a hernia, but not a hiatal. Sneezing causes increased pressure in the abdomen and can cause hiatal hernia indeed as well as abdominal hernia.
Hiatal hernia can not be visible from the outside. But the abdominal hernia can be visible and more prominent when standing and caughing. Bloating can be a part of such hernia symptoms.
I suggest you to consult a surgeon and have abdominal ultrasound done.
Hernia can be fixed with surgery.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be done laparoscopically.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it can be laparoscopic procedure. Mesh can be implanted to fix it.
