Question: is it safe to take vitamin b12 (1500 mcg )for a ckd patient
Brief Answer:
Safe dose.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In general, 2-3 ug/day of Vitamin B12 supplement recommended for CKD (dialysis and non-dialysis). However it should be supplement with folate. So to answer your question yes it is safe to take.
Please also note that since these vitamins are excreted via kidney and the kidney is not functioning, one has to get the serum VIt B12 and folate levels checked frequently to stop toxicity.
