Child Having Asthma, Fever, Sore Tummy And Rashes Over Legs. What Is The Required Treatment?

i am waiting to see specialist as they think she has floppy airways
Welcome to XXXXXXX
I have a few questions to ask you in the beginning.
1-You said she is borderline diabetic.what is her HbA1c and what is the management?
2-Was she on recurrent steroids for asthma and hay fever?
3-Is she growing well and otherwise normal?
4 -Do you have strong family history of diabetes?
5- when was diabetes diagnosed?
It is very strange for a child to get 5 times pneumonia in a year.
They have to investigate for the cause like floppy airways, ciliary dyskinesia ,vascular rings ,immuno dficiency etc.
Now high Fever, rash and sore tummy are suggestive of some infection.Get her examined and investigated as you have
planned.
One we have some advance work up we will be in a better position to manage her!
All the best
God bless
Dr Uma

Thanks for the details nicely written!
Recurrent steroids use which she is on (and cannot be avoided if she needed them for wheezing) is a predisposing factor for precipitating diabetes in a child who is prone for it.
Normal children will not get this from steroids in this age.
Your family history is significant in this matter.
Her weight and height are just at 10th percentile.
Wonder what she was like at birth?(birth weight and length)
Recurrent steroids, recurrent infections, diabetes all contribute to this problem.
There is always tendency for sugar to go up with infections and steroid use so you have to monitor her closely at these times.
Glad that you got the specialist appointment there for further investigations.
God bless the child.
All the best
Dr Uma

Thanks,
Birth weight was OK but length was short.
Anyway we will wait for your appointment with the doctor.
