Child Having Wetting Problem. Refusing To Eat. Suggest A Solution?

Question: My step son is 10 years old and wets the bed every night despite many kinds of prompting, diapers ect... He used to pee his pants on a daily basis until we bribed him into staying dry. He has not been able to resolve the night issues. He pees repeatedly on couches , beds whatever. He also refuses to eat anything but macaroni and cheese or grilled cheese and has not eaten a vegetable or fruit ever. ( I am not kidding) He is incredibly smart, but seems to have these behavioral issues which also include hygiene, pooping in his pants, phobias about a ton of things. example- if someone puts a cherry on a sundae he refuses to touch the sundae. If a pickle is on his plate , he would refuse to eat the grilled cheese. I tried to take him to a psychiatrist ,but his mother interceded and stopped me. What do you think is wrong with him.

Bed wetting in night or nocturnal eneuresis is a common problem in children. In a lot of children such type of presentation is associated with severe anxiety. He is also showing other clinical features of anxiety like he is very rigid in meals. I would advise strongly to take him to a Psychiatrist for evaluation. Discuss with his mother and try to convince her that bed wetting is not normal. Some children show the symptoms due to loss of confidence because of repeated bed wetting.

Treatment of bed wetting is easy and include both medicinal and psychological methods.
Medicines like Imipramine are very useful in bed wetting. The condition improves in a week or two.
Behavioral methods include Alarm Pad Method. There is a sensitive pad attached with alarm. When child passes urine the sensitive pad detects wetness and alarm rings and wakes up the child. In about a week child learns to wake up even before passing urine. Other method is to make a diary of timing of wetting. In most children the timing of bed wetting is fixed. Try to wake up him just before the time in night.

Try these methods and you will see improvement in him.

Hope I cleared your doubt, if you have more questions you can ask again.

Thanks
