Question: Hello, My baby would choke on a regular basis from he was born. It happened in the hospital a couple of times were the nurses would have to put tubes down his throat, because in an instant he went from normal to being arched back with his face bright purple, his eyes glazed over, with his body gone rigid.. It was very scary to see and it didnt stop there, this continued to happen at home, i took him to the doctors and hospital a number of times and he got the tubes a second time, he would do this on a daily basis, and there was no particular time that this would happen, it was very spontanious and scary. Then one day i took him back to the doctors and he went for blood tests and xrays, it showed that he had fractured ribs, could these be a result of his choking fits.? Please, Thankyou.

Hi, Thanks for query.

Choking since birth suggests some kind of congenital heart disease, like cyanotic heart disease. Multiple choking attacks may result in excessive breathing effort and finally rib fractures, definitely.

You must consult a board certified paediatrician or cardiologist and do echocardiography to diagnose any heart disease. If there is any problem then it can be cured in early stages of life.

I hope, you got your answer, any follow up query, welcome.

Thanking you.
