Primary hypothyroidism
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs. Madhumitha, Regards and Thanks for visiting XXXXXXX Your reports are suggestive of primary hypothyroidism. It means your thyroid gland is under functioning. Thyroid gland produces two main hormones T3 & T4. Whenever they start getting low in the blood because of less functioning thyroid gland TSH starts going up which is coming from pituitary, another gland in the brain. TSH tries to force thyroid gland to produce more T3 & T4 hormones. But as the thyroid gland is failing it is unable to XXXXXXX the demands raised by the body and the rising TSH. In this condition whole metabolism slows down, as a result lipid profile is also deranged. LDL goes up which is a bad cholesterol and HDL, which is a good cholesterol, goes down. There is nothing to panic, it is an easily manageable condition. Thyroxine (T4) replacement is the simple answer , dose of thyroxine will be determined by your treating doctor and you will require periodic checking to see that the correct dose is being administered.
Regards and take care.
thanks for your courteous reply. Following our XXXXXXX medicine Dr's advice, we did ultrasound scan on thyroid.
The report had the following:
Isthumis measures 1 mm;
right lobe 1.3 x 1.4 x 3.8 cm;
left lobe 1.7 x 1.8 x 3.7 cm.
Both lobes of thyroid appear normal in size.
Altered echotexture of the lobes noted.
No evidence of focal mass / lesion.
Bilateral submandibular and parotid glands appear normal.
Both XXXXXXX jugunar vein and carotids appear normal.
Impression:
- Altered echo texture of the thyroid gland.
Suggested FNAC correlation.
-----------------------
what does altered echo texture means. Is it recommended to go for FNAC in this case. We are worried as in most cases cysts are only examined with FNAC. Please let us know if there is any suspicion in this regard.
thank you very much,
Kind regards,
XXXX
Rule out malignancy
Detailed Answer:
Dear ma'm , altered echo-texture means that the gland has lost its normal structure as seen radiologically.
It may be merely a manifestation of severely under functioning gland but to be doubly sure getting FNAC done is not a bad idea.
Regards!
