Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Diarrhea and clay colored stools in a seven year old are indicative of a liver, biliary and gall bladder problems. The most likely cause is viral hepatitis. Other causes include- medications, gall stones, hepatitis, etc.
You need to contact his pediatrician as soon as possible who will order some of the tests like-
* Blood tests, including tests to check liver function and for viruses that might affect the liver
* Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
* Imaging studies such as an abdominal ultrasound or CT scan
These following measures would be helpful in early recovery:
1) Avoid oily and spicy food.
2) Avoid fatty foods like eggs, meat
3) Low salt diet
4) Maintain proper hygiene.
5) High carbohydrate diet is preferred.
Hope this answers your query.I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
