Question: Hello, A few weeks ago, I was outdoors at a party and I began to get hot, sweat, and noticed a sweaty smell coming from my vaginal area, this has happened before when I have been moving around a lot in the heat, so I wasn't particularly worried about the smell but I didn't want anyone else to begin to notice it. So I sprayed an awful lot of FDS spray, and also some body spray on it. As has happened before about a year ago when I did this and sprayed a lot of the spray in very close proximity to my vagina I experienced the beginning signs of a yeast infection but I could not get to the store right away to buy the yeast infection kit. I did however have some of the anti-itch cream left over that came with a kit I'd bought about 6 months prior. So I began to use it, and I will admit to using it a lot more than it says you are allowed to as the yeast infection itch tends to really bother me. I also scratched it a lot to the point where my vulva became red and swollen and also a tiny bump appeared. At first I noticed one but two more as I continued scratching appeared in the next 12hrs. They were all very small, and two of them were about 5 millimeters apart from eachother and the third was very tiny and didn't seem to itch that bad and was located at the very bottom of my vaginal area. The time before when I used too much of the spray a year ago, I had also noticed a bump but this time three appeared and I had been scratching a lot more and also waited to use the medicine this time. I got concerned and tried to pop them, when I tried it was very hard and I had to eventually use a needle to do it, and small amount of blood came out, and the area was very irritated at this point, but the bump was basically still there. The next day I tried again with my hand to pop it, and again a small amount of blood came out, and it made a bit of a popping sound and fluid which seemed to be clear but also slightly yellowish came out. The other two bumps popped fairly easily only no blood (I hadn't used the needle) and clear/but slightly yellowish fluid came out. Kind of like what comes out when I squeeze a pimple on my face after the white stuff come out...that is the best way to describe it. Once I began taking the yeast infection medicine I began to feel better at about the same time I always do when I take yeast infection medicine, and the yeast infection seemed to clear up just fine. My concern is though about the bumps! Is this normal or could it be a sign or herpes or some other disease? Did they appear because I scratched and rubbed so persistently or were they due to a reaction from the FDS and body spray sprayed so close to my vagina? I've been very worried that perhaps it's a disease as I've done this to myself twice now. Also I need to note. My friend is taking acyclovir and says she has not ever had a herpes break out though she did test positive for the antibodies and begin taking the medication. The genital to genital contact was brief, and didn't involve any fluid transfer, or so it seemed.

I also forgot to mention that my skin peeled after getting so scratched and red. It's done this before when I have had yeast infections and scratched a lot even when no bumps appeared. When it peeled it was how a slight sunburn would peel. It didn't hurt, and the peeling occurred on my vulva both where the bumps had been and where they were not. The bumps healed just like pimples on my face do except the pimples and the area around them was very sore to the touch. After I have popped them they looked like a popped pimple with a small scab. My vulva was sore for a while, as happened before with yeast infections and scratching. It did take about three days this time for all the itching to go away, which has happened before when I have waited to take the yeast infection medicine, but I also read that this is how long it can take a herpes outbreak to begin to heal if it is a secondary one, so I was very worried. I'm glad to hear that it might not have been a first or second Herpes outbreak, since this has happened before! I will get tested, and I thank you for all the help you have given me today!

I've also looked on the internet and saw that other women had had side effects similar to what I described using the Monistat 1 day kit, and the external miconazole nitrate cream that comes with the Monistat 1 day dose kit for yeast infections. I used the external cream more than the package said I should per day, and I also even put some of it inside my vagina to try to make the itching easier, (which it also said on the package I shouldn't do) but it seems by doing this I probably caused the irritation, bumps/blisters/pimples (whatever you want to call them), and peeling skin. The skin peeled where I had applied the cream also, and no where else. I applied the cream about 4 times a day some days! The package had said to just use it two times a day no more. I've never had bumps and/or pimple like things on my labia minora/vaginal area *except* where I have used this cream in the past! It has never happened any other time, or anywhere else on my vagina but in the places the cream has been placed. The bumps looked more like pimples, and nothing came out of them until I picked a lot (and I do mean a lot) with my hand and then prodding and piercing the skin through with a needle, then they bled, and later the next day and the day after when I went back to pick them the clear or slightly yellow fluid came out. They never formed blisters or ulcers like I saw online when I searched for herpes blisters. Mine just didn't look like that at all. The head of the herpes blisters looked much larger and uniform, and seemed to be filled with a lot of fluid, and these bumps didn't look that way at all. They almost resembled a very small pimple in appearance. Also: I did reapply the cream to the bumps after I initially picked them and the skin was broken which I guess I shouldn't have done either! I do recall how after, the bumps seemed a little worse and hurt a bit, either from the cream or from me picking and pinching at them and scratching. I noticed before when I had a yeast infection, that this happened also...I just never put two and two together that *I* was probably causing this by misusing the medication/having a reaction to the medication! The cream has made me peel and become irritated when I used it in the past as well! I always figured this irritation and peeling was due to the yeast infection! But it may be due to the medication, and me not using it according to directions...along with me scratching, and making the irritation swelling etc. even worse by doing so. I've definitely learned my lesson, and will listen and heed your advice and LEAVE myself alone next time and not scratch, pick, etc. I guess I was somewhat neurotic when it came to picking at myself. I will also use the medication as it is indicated on the package, and not deviate from the directions when I take ANY medication.
