Dark Chocolate In Achalasia
Achalasia is a disease of unknown cause in which there is a loss of peristalsis in the distal esophagus (whose musculature is comprised predominantly of smooth muscle) and a failure of XXXXXXX (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) relaxation. The symptoms of achalasia like painful swallowing and reflux are due primarily to the defect in XXXXXXX relaxation.
It is observed that dark chocolate contains flavanols which are found to relax smooth muscles. So clinical trials are being done to look for treatment of achalasia using this unique property of dark chocolate.
According to the WHO clinical trial registry platform, XXXXXXX 2010, there are inviting subjects with Achalasia (non pregnant) who wish to participate in this trial. Phase 1 and phase 2 trials are completed though.
Let us hope for the light at the end of the tunnel for achalasia sufferers.
You can try on your own by consuming dark chocolate and note its benefits, you can report to your doctor.
Regards.
