What is Peristalsis?

Peristalsis is a type of movement of contraction and relaxation of smooth muscles which help to move. In the intestines this Peristalsis movement propagates the food and helps food to pass through entire digestive tract. In reptiles this kind of movement helps to move ahead as we see in Earthworms. In Peristalsis movement circular muscles do contraction and relaxation in a wave like motion.
