Daughter Suffer Frequent Cold, Gastro Or Fever Related Infections. Planning To Put Her To Play School. Suggestions?

Posted on Wed, 25 Sep 2013
Question: My daughter is now 2 years 3 months old. Her current weight is 8.5 kgs. She talks a dozen of words and a half a dozen sentences.
She does get cold twice or thrice, gastro or fever related infection frequently. She has been given all the vaccines for her age besides Prevenar, which the doctor said not required as she is above 2 years now.
I am thinking to start sending her to play school. I want to know given her age, weight, current and past medical history can i do so without being majorly worried about any repercussion.

Brief Answer:
You can start sending to a good playschool.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

As she is two years completed, you can send her to play school which will help her to learn things there like communication, social interaction, and play rules.

Getting frequent attacks of cold and coughs, less weight is not a obstacle for sending her to play school.

But there is a chance of getting increased attacks of upper respiratory tract infections, cold and cough attacks, and diarrhea because spread of infection from one kid to another.

This increased attacks can be controlled by the school management and parents efforts such as isolating the children with any illness, not sending the child to school whenever having cold, cough, fever, and diarrhea.

The other most important measure is to maintain the hands hygiene of the kid during school and at home.

And try to improve her body weight by giving a balanced nutritious home made diet.

Therefore I advise you contact a good play school for further assistance.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Regards.

Dear Doctor

Thank you for your encouraging reply

I have attached my daughter's vaccination matrix. Request you to kindly review it and inform if we have missed out any as of now. As informed earlier her paediatrician doesnt recommend giving her Prevanar vaccine as she is above 2 years and doesnt need it now. Pls give your opinion about it.

We do try and give her balanced nutritious diet but are restricted as some foods still cause gastro troubles for her.

I have begun sending her to playschool for 2 hours from yesterday after getting confident on reading your reply. So can u recommend any medicine or tonic to boost her immunity accordingly.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Above 2yrs, Prevenar not needed. Balanced diet.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,

Thank you for getting back.

I went through her vaccination record. She is up to date for vaccines as per the schedule except for Prevenar.

The number of doses of Prevenar depends on present age of the child and as she is above 2 years of age, Prevenar is not required at present.

Try to give home made, freshly prepared balanced diet and you can avoid the diets which are not suitable to her.

Take basic precautions while sending her to play school like maintaining hygiene, avoiding school whenever she is sick, and any special instructions to be given to her teachers at school.

As a general supplementation, I can suggest calcium, vitamin D, and multivitamin syrups which can be given after the pediatrician prescription to improve her nutrition status.

As the age grows, children will build up their immunity and resistance, so no particular medication is suggested. A well balanced diet consisting of all nutrients will boost her immunity.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Those medicines for supplementation of vitamins

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

D3 Must contains vitamin D and it s given for bone growth and to maintain calcium homeostasis and vitamin D has to be taken in supplemental dose as most of the Indian children are having low vitamin D levels in the blood.

It can be continued in supplemental dosage as prescribed by the pediatrician. It can be given for a period of total 3 months.

Enzyplex contains digestive enzymes and B complex vitamins and it helps for digestion of food and to supplement the body with vitamins. It can be given for 1 month.

Try to feed her with a balanced diet so that she will get all nutrients, minerals, micronutrients, and vitamins.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any clarification please let me know.

Regards.
