Do Adderall And Prozac Interact With Alcoho?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Apr 2016
Question: I am 50 years old, white female, in good health, tad overweight by 25 pounds 5'4. Lifestyle is as a professional, in office. I have been having upper stomach pains for 3 or more weeks, upper stomach is hard and aches for usually 12-24 hours. My stomach has been upset enough where I throw up just a little bile each time and then I seem to feel not so sick to my stomach but the aches are still there. Mainly in the very upper part of my stomach, back pain across my back level with where my bra comes across. I do take adderall 20MG and prozac 20MG each day. I do consume alcohol, mainly each Friday, several beers and possibly one other night during the week in the same manner. At first it seemed the combo didn't sit well (meds and drinking) every once in a while, but now it seems to happen the next day even if it is only a half of beer. Do you think it is due to the combo of meds and alcohol or more. Thank you for your reply.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to alcohol consumption or gastrointestinal pathology itself

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcomes. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.
I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

There are many reasons for such an issue and Yes--alcohol is one of them. It is not actually the combo of drugs and alcohol, it is alcohol that has bad effects on stomach mucosa if taken chronically. You may discuss the issue in detail with gastroenterologist after all the workup is over.

Adderall also causes stomach pain and indigestion.

It seems that you have the issue of hyperacidity in stomach, that leads to stomach pain due to ulceration of stomach mucosa. HCl is the acid in stomach secretions that is corrosive on the mucosal lining of stomach and duodenum (small intestine).

Many people with hyperacidity suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). In this issue the excess stomach acid regurgitates up into food pipe (esophagus) that comes upto the mouth and irritates all the passageway.

You need to consult a Gastroenterologist for thorough evaluation and management accordingly. He will go for physical examination and will run a battery of tests on you including but not limited to blood work and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (camera assisted evaluation of the upper GI tract). He may also go for H.Pylori bacterial tests to see if the cause of issue is stomach infection. Treatment goes accordingly.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.

Thank you for your reply. I would not say I am any more than a social drinker, going for periods of time without any at all. It is just when I do partake, it usually is a more than the average consumed

I currently do not have acid reflex systems, but the pain is more in the upper stomach, upper GI area. Most of my pain is located there. Since starting adderall x6 months ago, I am not usually hungry during the day therefore survive on coffee and water until early evening to eat a meal.

Could this be causing longer term effect, not eating during the day? Thank you again.

Also I am not regular. What could I take over the counter that would help with this issue?

Brief Answer:
Start over the counter remedies and also try to act as aforementioned !!!

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for your continued trust in HCM.

((My stomach has been upset enough where I throw up just a little bile each time and then I seem to feel not so sick to my stomach but the aches are still there. ))

ANS: These, and many more of your symptoms may be related to acid reflux too. But I want to add that Adderall has also added to the stomach pains as aforementioned.

Caffeinated drinks, beverages, junk and spicy foods are all like a poison to you. They are making the situation worst. Your eating habits are not good for you in the long run. Yes, not taking anything like a healthy food during the day is all that is creating the mess.

Please take an appropriate breakfast, moderate lunch and little dinner. Until you start having proper breakfast, stomach pains can't be managed properly in the long run.

Your over the counter remedies:
GAVISCON LIQUID 30 minutes before every meal will help relieve the symptoms to a larger extent.
CITRUCEL DIETARY FIBER SUPPLEMENT with plenty of water will help.
Taking a whole grains food and avoiding processed food. Avoiding beverages, caffeinated drinks, chocolates, energy drinks, spices and junks will help you faster recovery.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Please give your 'rating' (if agreed, Five Stars) to help me assist patients in a better way; and, please don't forget to click on 'Close The Discussion'.
