Do Cortisone Shots Cause Migraine And Headache?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I had an cortisone yesterday in my knee yesterday. Last night I developed an unrelenting HA. I've taken Aleve x2, AllegraD, and Tylenol 1000mg this am. Could this be the result of the cortisone shot?

Brief Answer:
HA: Casual link between cortisone shot and headaches exist.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

1. Cortisone shots have a tendency to produce a wide variety of side effects in people.
2. Headaches have been reported. This is a fact and the Pharmaceutical companies that manufacture these injections, indeed do report that headaches can be one of the many possible side effects.
3. The fact remains that the HA will not last for a significant duration of time. The levels of cortisone, and other factors determine this.
4. I would suggest that you can take OTC painkillers for this condition.
5. I say this given the fact that you have not reported HA before, certainly not of this intensity, as you describe it as a "migraine".
6. There is a casual link between the cortisone shot and your HA.
7. You need not worry about any further problems, that you feel, other issues that might be behind your headache.

Please follow the above instructions. Keep well now. Write back if you have any doubts, or some ponderings about your HA.

Your's Sincerely,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
