Do Fibroids In Uterus Cause Excessive Vaginal Discharge?
Question: Hi, do fibroids cause a strong, bad feminine odor and an excess of watery discharge? I have been to a doctor, did a pap smear which turned negative and also no infection. What can be the cause? And lately my periods have a very bad smell, i can hardly stand it! I have never had any feminine odor!
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.
The smell during menstrual cycle is due to excess and retained endometrium.
In women with fibroid uterus it is common to have excess endometrial tissue which has degenerated and fallen off from the area stretched by fibroid.
Since infection is ruled out and carcinoma is not an option I guess the only possibility is endometrial tissue.
You can consider laparoscopic fibroid removal( myomectomy)

Thank you doctor.
But will this also cause the feminine odor to go on for a long time? As i said earlier, i have never had feminine odor so i am quite worried. Does it also mean that the fibroid has been there for long? I just learnt of it two weeks ago!
