Question: Hi,
My mother in law is suffering from knee pain. She consulted a orthopedic. He said that there is gap between the knee bone. She is can't walk properly. He started some medicine including some calcium dose & other medicines. She started the medicine but she couldnt get any results upto 3 months.
Then she visited one of our relative doctor, he suggested that taking lots of medicine for joint pain including calcium intake is not good for kidney and may affect the functioning of other parts of body.I want to ask you that, Is that true?
What kind of treatment you will suggest?
Any ayurvedic treatment is available for this?

The orthopedic from healthcare said that It seems to be Osteoarthritis.
I want ayurvedic treatment for this.Plz suggest.

Brief Answer:
Treatment available in ayurveda

Detailed Answer:
Hai,
Thanks for consulting hcm.

Osteoarthritis cannot be cured permanently because it is a degenerative disease.
As age goes up degeneration process will occur in all parts of body.

In modern medicine there is no cure for osteoarthritis with oral medication.
Calcium will not be a solution for osteoarthritis. Calcium will be a supplement for bone degeneration as in women after menopause due to horomonal influence bone become fragile.so pain killers and other supplements wll harm your mother in long term medication.

ayurveda also says no permanent cure. but it can be managed without any side effects.
Ayurvedic medicine can treat primary osteoarthritis with oral medication, panchakarma and certain exercises which strengthen the knee joint.

so kindly give me some details so that i can guide you.

How long your mother suffer?
Weight and height?
Able to walk /whether she can do their own work?
Any investigation done like MRI /x ray? If done what is the impression?
Any other illness/symptoms associated with it?

Kindly get back with the details for further management and advise.

Thanks
Stay healthy

Brief Answer:
osteoarthritis can managed and controlled by ayurveda cannot be cured

Detailed Answer:
Hai,
Thanks for your reply.
As the severity and duration seems to be moderate degree of osteoarthritis.
It can be managed.
oral medication and panchakarma will reduce the pain and swelling.ayurvedic medicine will help in controlling the pain and disability. Osteoarthritis can be managed and controlled.

Treatment:
1.rasnaerandathi kashayam - 20 ml with 60 ml of warm water twice a day. After food..

2.haritaki legiyam- 3g twice a day . After food.

3.orthofit or rumalaya forte- 2 tab twice a day. After day.

4.External application- pinda tailam(gently warm it and apply it on the knee).

Panchakarma can be taken (janu vasti)under an advise and supervision of anayurvedic physician. That will show good improvement .

Do knee stabilization exercises.

This is a generalised prescription for osteoarthritis. Following above prescription will keep you away from pain and avoid further damage to the knee joint internal structure. But it will not reconstruct the knee joint. You should manage with the prescription periodically.

If you want permanent cure consult an orthopedic surgeon for knee replacement.

Hope i answered your query
