Do Thyroid Increase The Risk Of Miscarriage During Pregnancy?
Question: Hi,
My cousin sister is pregnant and 3 months completed as on May-8.
During the first blood test which was taken on May 5th, it was found that her thyroid level is 8.5 and it looks to be very high.
Doctor had given thyroid tablets which she is taking now.
When we were checking, it looks 3 is the maximum limit of thyroid level.
Hence, we are worried as we read this may lead to miscarriage.
Please advise

Brief Answer:
With proper treatment risk of miscarriage can be decreased
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
Usually during pregnancy because of increase demand for thyroid hormones, the levels of TSH may increase in some women.
By taking thyroid hormonal supplements this level can be brought down to normal.
If thyroid disorder is diagnosed early and treated properly the risk of miscarriage can be decreased.
Thyroid hormonal profile should be repeated in every 45 days to 60 days to monitor the levels and to adjust the dose of tablets.
Take care.
