Does Adderall XR Interact With Pamelor?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 May 2017
Question: I've been on 10mg Pamelor for migraines for seven months. Is it safe to combine with 10mg Adderall XR that I was just prescribed? I completely forgot to list the Pamelor on the list of meds I'm taking. The others are 200mg Topamax and 80mg Prozac and the dr said those were fine. Also, is it still okay to take .5 - 1mg Klonopin in case of an emergency (panic attack - rarely get them but just in case would like to know.) Thank you!

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Yes, Pamelor is combinable with Adderall, Klonopin, Topamax, and Prozac. Be advised that in rare cases Pamelor and Prozac can interact and cause serotonin syndrome, but the risk is very low. Otherwise, this regimen should be safe.

Thank you! Is it okay to take .5 - 1 mg klonopin in cases of emergencies (panic attacks - very rare but would like to be prepared) even though I've been prescribed the Adderall XR? I mainly take the Adderall during the workweek about 3-4 days a week.

Detailed Answer:
Yes this is safe to use in rare cases, though your doctor needs to be aware you are doing this as these two medications cancel each other out (one is a stimulant and one is a depressant).
