Does Aldactazide Interact With Alcohol?

about it. I drink moderately, and I'm in pretty good health. I'm 75 Years. Old. This medication has been prescribed to me because of a continuous high blood pressure which ranges from 150/90. However after the gym workout it usually falls in the normal ranges; as low as 137/76. My doctor has not really discussed this medication and my pharmacist seems to think that this is a very heavy medication. Can you advise me? Thank you YYYY@YYYY
can work well

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
I think that you may need to consider discussing this with your doctor.
There are new guidelines released by the JNC (an organisation in the US, that looks at high blood pressure).
These guidelines state that in persons over age 60 , the goal is a blood pressure of 150/90 or less, unless the person has diabetes, history of heart disease or previous stroke.
In the case of diabetes, heart disease or stroke, the goal is lower.
(It should be said however that the XXXXXXX heart association still pushes to 140/90 or less).
This means according to the JNC guidelines, your blood pressure at your age, only needs to be 150/90 or less unless you have one of the conditions mentioned.
If your blood pressure is above 150/90 even intermittently however, blood pressure medications does need to be intensified.
It has been found that intermittent elevations can also cause problems.
The medication suggested consists of a combination of spironlactone and a thiazide. Thiazides are common first line medications for high blood pressure.
Spirnolactone works by helping the body get rid of excess sodium and water , potassium is retained.
By getting of the excess fluid, salt, it helps reduce blood pressure.
It is possible that it may stabilize your readings, you may not have any problems with the combination if it is needed (depending on your blood pressure readings and guidelines your doctor is following)
A 24 hour bp monitor may help to determine how your readings are during the course of the entire day. This would truly determine if additional meds are needed.
If they are then this is a good option
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

can stop if have intolerable side effects
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the delayed reply
If you notice sexual dysfunction or any other concerning side effects then you should speak to your doctor to have the medication altered.
I know that I change medications if a person is having issues with them and I am sure that your doctor would do the same.
You can stop them if they are not working for you or causing your problems
It can be used with alcohol though alcohol itself can sometimes contribute the high blood pressure and your need for more BP meds
Please feel free to ask anything else
