Does Amoxicillin Clavulanate Interact With Doxycycline Hyclate?
different family of medications altogether
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
SUMMARY: These are completely different family of medications. Doxycycline is a tetracycline, amox-clav is a penicillin. Neither are sulfa drugs or anti fungals.
This means that the way they work in the body is different and the way you react with one medication does not tell you how you will react with the other.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic that is in an entirely different family of drug than amox-clav or sulfa antibiotics or anti fungals.
Doxycycline is not related to either of these medications. It is a tetracycline. Amox clav is a penicillin.
This means that it would be difficult to predict, if you have never used it before, what your reaction will be.
Since it is entirely different to amox-clav, cannot say that you would not be allergic to it.
It is also not the same as sulfa antibiotics, so it quite possible that you would not have a reaction.
Though you may not be allergic, side effects may or may not occur.
These are possible with any medication though many meds can be used with no problem
Side effects that may or may not occur with doxycycline are headache, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dental discoloration, difficulty swallowing.
I have used it with no side effects but again, persons react differently to medication.
If you need antibiotics and these have been prescribed for you by your doctor then you can try them.
I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions
it is a quinolone
Detailed Answer:
HI
Levofloxacin is a quinolone, a very strong antibiotic. Used usually for serious infections that have not responded to other antibiotics or are thought to be severe from the onset.
It is a strong when taken orally or intravenously
It is usually not a first line initial antibiotics, unless , as mentioned, the infection is severe
Please feel free to ask anything else
not in the sulfa or anti fungal family
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the delayed reply.
It is a quinolone, used for bacterial infections so not related to medications used to treat fungal infections.
It is not in the same family as sulfa drugs or anti fungal medication (medication used to treat fungal infections) so there is no cross reaction with these medications.
Because it is a quinolone and you are over 60, there is a risk of tendon injury such as inflammation of a tendon (tendonitis) or rupture.
This is more common in persons over 60 or if a person is also being medically treated with steroid medication or there is a history of kidney or liver disease.
The other most common side effects are headaches, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain ,dizziness, insomnia, rash and itching.
These effects and the tendon injury, may not occur and unfortunately cannot predict who would react in this way.
If anything else unclear, can let me know
