Does Crestor Allevate Sugar Level?
Question: Hello Dr,
My Reading of the blood test are as follows:
Creatinine: 0.63
SGOT: 43
SGPT: 92
Bilirubin Total: 1.53
Bil Direct: 0.25
Bil Indirect: 1.28
Toatl Protien: 7.91
Albumin:5.19
A:G ratio: 1.91
CBC report is perfectly normal. HEMOGLOBIN: 16.6
RBC: 5.29
MCV:90
MCH:31.40
MCHC:34.90
URINE REPORT IS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL
Sugar Fasting: 123
Cardio C Reactive protien: .20
Dr, Please can you help me out about the liver reading going up, what is the cause?
Also, I am taking Creator 40 Mg from last 1 year, and my today Lipid reading are:
Total Cholest: 161
Triglic:177
HDL: 28
LDL: 96
VLDL: 35.4
Do Crestor allevate the sugar level also? as every time sugar level is high?
Please guide me?

Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I have read your query in details. I understand your concern.
Deranged LFT can be due to Tab Crestor that you are taking in high doses.
Crestor doesn't cause elevation of blood sugar levels.
Your Fasting Blood Sugar Levels are within normal limits.
I would like to know following details to help you better:
1. Your blood pressure level.
2. Why were you prescribed Creator?
3. Any history of any heart problems in past?
4. Any history of jaundice?

My blood pressure is always normal 120/80 every time...
Due to high cholestrol level Crestor was prescribed by cardiologist, 4 year back started with 20 mg and 40 mg substiquently....but in today's report level is fine is suppose....
I never had jaundice since birth.
My age is 34 weight is 72 kg and height is 5'11" and daily have 8 km walk...
Since last 1 year when I have started taking Crestor 40 mg Sugar level is always high 1 month back it was 200 Fasting and 265 PP and HBA1C was 8, my sugar level as mentioned in today's report is 123!
I read every where on line that Crestor increase sugar level and result is in me....
My Urine report is fine with no sugar traces ever in every report...
Please guide as now all reports are normal should I stop Crestor 40 mg and also from last 1 month I m taking sugar medina also Istamet 50/500mg tablet everyday....
Please help me in understanding the fact and good Dr in Ghaziabad U.P to visit for same....

Crestor has probably caused this.

Dear Friend.
Crestor can cause the risk of "developing" diabetes. But since you are already a diabetic, we should not blame Crestor for that.
I don't understand the reason for taking such a high dose of Crestor with no cardiac issues. Even if your Lipid Profile is deranged, such a high dose is not indicated if you don't have a cardiac issue.
If you don't consume alcohol, there are high chances that your LFT has got deranged because of Crestor.
Still if you want you can get testing for Hepatitis B and C, to be sure they are not causing damage to your liver.
I would also like to tell you and appreciate that your diabetes is getting controlled now that is why your Fasting Blood Sugar is Normal on medication. This can happen since you have started the Istamet.
Regarding HbA1c (Glycosylated Hb), it reflects your average blood sugar levels of last 3 months, so it was raised earlier.
I suppose you should get yourself treated perfectly , but not aggressively like you got for deranged Lipid Profile which is now deranging your LFT.
