Question: Dear Dr.

My mom is Type 2 Diabetic for 15 years.

She is on following daily medications ,

DIAMICRON. XR60 before breakfast 1 tab.
SITAGLIPTIN 50mg and METFORMIN XR 500mg after breakfast
Volix 0.3mg during lunch
VOLIX 0.3mg during dinner and METFORMIN XR 500mg after dinner

She is traveling presently and we are not getting Volix Supplies in the region where she is traveling. So Volix is out of stock.

Can you please suggest an alternative medication

Her Blood Sugar Levels are Fasting 104,,, PP - 135 Without taking VOLIX 0.3mg

Thanks

Brief Answer:
About Diabetes treatment;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
Volix is e new drug of the oral antidiabetics class called alpha glucosidase inhibitors and can be substituted with acarbose 100 mg.
I think acarbose can be found more easily.
The blood sugar you reported is well controlled, anyway volix helps her to reduce postprandial glucose at lunch and dinner.
So, keep monitoring it before and after lunch and dinner and if postprandial glucose persists over 140 mg/ dl ( postprandial) she needs to take acarbose or volix.
Hope i have answered your query.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
