Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that troubles with urination are not a known adverse effect related to Diltiazem. While troubles with bowel movements (diarrhea or constipation) have been reported as an adverse effect of this drug in up to 4 % of the persons.
Anyway, I would recommend performing some tests to investigate for other possible causes that may cause your troubles:
- an abdominal ultrasound to examine your urinary tract (including the prostate)
- kidney and liver function tests
- fasting glucose
- blood electrolytes for possible electrolyte imbalance
- a urine analysis.
If all these tests result normal (other causes have been excluded) you should discuss with your doctor on the possibility of switching from diltiazem to another drug which you may tolerate better.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
