Does Diovan Elevated Serum Potassium Levels?
Both can increase Potassium
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Diavon is an ARB and one of the side effects is to elevate the Serum Potassium.
At 80 you are likely to have a reduced kidney function even if the serum creatinine is normal. Potassium is not excreted well with decreased glomerular filtration at the kidneys. To add to that NSAID can affect the kidney function further.
So to normalize your Potassium, stop the NSAID and take another analgesic if required. Try to change to another group of blood pressure medication like diuretics which excrete Potassium. Avoid fruits and fruit juices till your Potassium comes down.
Your doctor might also advise you to have an EKG taken to ensure that there is no potential harm.
Take care,
Dr Noble Zachariah
