Does Diphenhydramine HCL Have Any Effect On The Kidneys?
THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE I HAVE A CREATININE LEVEL WHICH IS JUST AT THE TOP OF THE REASONABLE RANGE (1.5) AND I TAKE THE DIPHEN... AS A SLEEP AID. I HAVE STOPPED TAKING NSAIDS OR IBUPROFEN BECAUSE OF THE EFFECT ON THE KIDNEYS. I HAVE ALSO INCREASED MY HYDRATION. ANY OTHER WAYS TO GET THE CREATININE LEVEL DOWN?
diphenhydramine is safe
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
if you have a serum creatinine of 1.5 it shows that you have early kidney damage. As per information provided by you pain killers are a common cause of renal damage and you have rightly stopped them . for pain you should take paracetamol or tramadol.
diphenhydramine HCL is safe for renal patients is has no renal toxicity
other ways to decrease your creatinine-
1. critical analysis of all your medicines by your doctor to see if any nephrotoxic effect is there from any medicine.
also your treating doctor can identify any acute disease factor contributing to rise in serum creatinine.
2. better BP control 130/80 or less under guidance of your doctor.
3. cut down on meat intake - 0.8 gm/kg / day protein intake. So try to avoid meat products .
there is other way to reduce serum creatinine.
best wishes.
