Does Finasteride Increase The Possibilities Of Complications During A Cataract Surgery?
Question: Does finasteride affect the ability to have good results with cataract surgery? I have heard of a floppy iris issue but I have also been told that ophthalmologists can correct or handle this issue if they have the right equipment. If they do, then floppy iris is not an issue during cataract surgery. True or not true?
Brief Answer:
If doctors know in advance, they can take care of it.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Finasteride and other medicines for treatment of prostate problems indeed increase the possibilities of complications during a cataract surgery. Floppy iris certain other things can indeed be issues for doctors during the surgery. However, these conditions can be managed by the doctors if they keep in account the possible things that can go wrong. It is important that the fact about medication be mentioned to the doctors during a detailed medical history taking when you go for the cataract surgery, with attention to a history of BPH and its treatment.
Let me know if I could help further.
