Does Ginkgo Biloba Help Cure Severe Tinnitus?
Question: hello ive starting taking ginko biloba for tinnitus that i developed recently from taking 5 htp .what effect does ginko biloba have on seratonin levels if any? i think it was the incease on sertonin that caused it in the first place and gave me brain zaps.

Ginko biloba does not have a direct action on Serotonin metabolism. However it is a natural booster of serotonin by increasing the blood flow to the microcapillaries in the brain. The effect of serotonin in treating tinnitus is by diff mechanism by inhibiting Carboxy O methly transferase and alpha 2 adrenergic activity.
However it should not be used in combination with anti depressants like SSRI, it can boost the levels of serotonin.
However it is not so high that it can cause effects like serotonin syndrome.

hello i have take 5 htp in small doses of 25 mg about 6 times and 50mg about 2/3 times. whenever i took it it always noticed that i gave my a spaced out feeling and i noticed the change in the ringing in my ears.
so i presume it was the serotonin that cause my tinnitus..
i dont want to take ginko biloba and have the same problem or making with ears worse with the effect that it has on serotonin.

if someone in my office is not happy with their treatment and express doubt about the efficicacy of treatment I would truly stop it. a TRUST is needed between the doctor and patient. If not it should be related established.
So I suggest to go to doctor for prescription of BETAHISTINE for Tinnitus.
