Question: My a1c came back at 9 . I went on a very low carb diet one week later my blood sugar level went down to fasting 80 one hour after eating 119 . Do i need metforman
Brief Answer:
HbA1c of 9 do not corelate with Fasting & post-prandial blood sugar.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
HbA1c of 9 confirm diagnosis of Diabetes.
But Fasting & post-prandial blood sugar levels (80 & 119) after only 1 week of low carb duet may not be corelated with HbA1c.
I may suggest to repeat Fasting & 2 hours post-prandial blood sugar levels in laboratory.
Need for Metformin can be decided on blood sugar levels, Body Mass Index (BMI) and family history of Diabetes.
Hope this helps you.

Blood Sugar levels usually higher with HbA1c of 9.
Detailed Answer:
With HbA1c of 9 blood sugar levels may vary between 170 to 250.
With only 1week of low carbohydrates reduction to the level of 80 & 119 mg may not be possible.
So one need to verify results by doing Fasting & post-prandial blood sugar levels.
