Does Hepatitis C Infection Spread Through Sexual Intercourse?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Apr 2015
Question: I feel guilt, disappointment, shame and fear over this incident.

After drinking heavily on Sat 3/7/15 I had sex with a male/Transexual sex worker.

He had anal intercouse with me. I was the receiver. A condom was used but I didn't see him pull it out and that everything was intact and OK with the condom (no failure). Also, he did not use lube, he just push and then spit on the end and then got it in.

After he told me he ejaculated and I asked if everything was OK with the condom and he said of course and seemed as if there was nothing to be concerned about.

Obviously, I do not know this individual and while I'd think they wouldn't lie to me, I'm just freaked out for many reasons.

My sense is that if the condom didn't fail I'm ok. However, I started thinking about whether the fact they spit on the condom could have exposed me to Hep C or anything else.

Obviously, I'm also sore and I'm evaluating every sensation I have in every area including my penis which they did not touch.

I plan to get tested but realize I need to wait months.

Is there anything you can tell me about the HEP C worry or any other insight to help me gain perspective?

Brief Answer:
Hepatitis C never spreads by sexual mode.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the possibility of hepatitis C infection after the incidence.

After analyzing the complete condition with diligence I first and foremost reassure you fully that there is no chance of getting hepatitis C infection in your case.

It is because of the simple fact that hepatitis C never spreads by sexual mode. The common mode of infection in hepatitis C is by intravenous drug abuse or by blood transfusion.

In your case specifically this was a protected anal intercourse. Even in case the other person spitted before entrance then also the chances are nil. Hepatitis C never spreads by salivary secretions.

So allay all your fears related to hepatitis C and just relax.

I hope these informations will relax your mind. I will be glad to answer any further queries.

According to a few websites (one being Wikipedia), its states that Hep being transmitted sexually is a topic of dispute. With that said, one source I read said that Hep could be transferred thru saliva because the smallest amount of blood in saliva could hold the disease.

I feel better after reading your reply.

I guess, I would have notice something if the condom did fail but nothing seemed off from that regard.

Do you have any sense of how effective condoms are in anal sex? The research doesn't tell much but I assume they must be pretty effective or there would be masses of people who engage in this behavior with HIV.

Anything else you can tell me to help me gain perspective?

Thanks
