Does Kefir Cause Diabetes?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I make my own yoghurt , kefir, with a yoghurt plant, I make it with low fat milk. Marvellous for fruit smoothies or in fruit salads. I have just been checked by Lifeline and they tell me I am heading towards type 2 diabetes. I am 76 years old , about a stone overweight , very active in garden. I am wondering if the kefir in my diet is damaging and helping me put on weight ? My father had type 2 diabetes.

Brief Answer:
Kefir isnt responsible for diabetes n weight issue

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern.

Kefir in your diet is not responsible for the diabetes. It does not interfere with weight gain or loss.

The fact that you have a history of diabetes puts you at risk , too. Though a final diagnosis will only be reached if you have fasting blood glucose over 126 g/dl twice tested over a week.

You should also get an HBA1c done to give you an estimate of your average blood glucose over 3 months.

Let me know if you have any query.

wishing you best of health

Thanks
