Question: I have heaviness at the back of my head. I am 70 Years old and have high blood preassure. My BP reading now Left hand 136/74. Right hand 138/66. Pulse 62. Ihad problem with BP the last month and was admitted to the Hospital for observation for 24 hours. (the BP was 230/120 and Cat scan was performed. It was normal). First I was adviced to take Amlodipine Besylate 5mg every day instead of occasinally) But BP continued to flactuate up to 198/95. Then UrgentCare doctor advised to increase the dosage of Valsartan from 160 mg to 320 mg. ECG was normal at the time in the hospital 12/15/2017. The last week my BP is normal for me (not higher then 145/90) Besides those 2 mentioned medications I am on atorvastatin 10 mg and aspirin 81 mg. Ocasionally I am taking Lorazepam 0.5 mg to sleep better. I habe appointment with cardiologist for 01/30 and with my Family Doctor on 02/02. I did not visit MD for 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your actual blood pressure values are within the normal ranges, which means that your actual blood pressure therapy is effective in controlling high blood pressure.

So, there is no need to perform further changes to your therapy.

Regarding the heaviness in the back of your head, it may be related to the new equilibrium in your blood pressure value (as you have been accustomed to very high blood pressure values before).

But, it doesn't indicate anything concerning.

Your situation will improve gradually. You should just be patient. Correcting your posture and using an orthopedic pillow could be helpful improve headache related to a wrong posture (which would have the same characteristics as you describe).

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
