Question: My mother in-law has several medications she takes, and am wondering if she should be taking them all at one time? And she has a habit of instead of taking them as prescribed will often take 2 - 3 of some, instead of taking them every 6 - 8 hours. Here are the meds she has:
Alprazolam, Metoprolol, Citalopram HBR, Quetiapine Fumarate, Metformin HCL, Atorvastatin, Isosorbide, she also takes high dosages of vitamins C & D

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that there is no contraindication in taking these drugs together, as their effects are long lasting and most of them can be taken in a single daily dose.

But, as they are a lot of drugs, I would recommend dividing them twice daily (morning and evening).

So, I would recommend taking in the morning Metformine, Citalopram, Metoprolol and Isosorbide. She can also take the vitamins in the morning.

In the evening it would be advisable taking Quetapine Fumarate, Metformin and Metoprolol (if they twice daily), Atorvastatine and Alprazolam.

I would not recommend taking Alprazolam for a longer period than one month as it can cause addiction and tolerance.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
