Does Neurontin Interact With Lamictal And Seroquil?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Feb 2017
Question: I am a 66 yo female who has a low risk bipolar (my father and sister were both admitted for it but my case
is much less severe). I just moved to a new area and a new psychiatrist prescribed Neurontin, lamictal, seroquil and abilify! This sounds very overkill. I am being treated as a formerly battered wife. My ex-husband was diagnosed as a real psychopath, hence I was warned to move.

Hello, and thanks for your question.

Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and is standard treatment for prevention of depression and mania in people with bipolar disorder.

Neurontin is a medication that is used to treat anxiety and insomnia.

Seroquel, depending on the dose, treats insomnia and anxiety (25-200mg), acts as a mood stabilizer in bipolar disorder (200mg-600mg), or as an antipsychotic in schizophrenia (600mg-1000mg).

Abilify acts as an antidepressant and mood stabilizer in bipolar disorder.

All of these medications make sense and are likely helping you.

While I have trouble sleeping (my psychopath-diagnosed ex-husband broke into my home numerous times, but never since I moved 2 years ago) I still have trouble sleeping. But 4 pills seems overkill, why so many? Why not just a larger dose of the most effective? The bipolar is minor. I've never been told it was more than mild. My symptoms are rapid speech, rapid thoughts, but not racing thoughts. I'd never made Sr. Hematopoietic Specialist for 23 years if I'd had even moderate problems.
