Brief Answer:
I will not recommend both at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Red yeast and niacin, especially in elderly, is not recommended except the doctor was aware of this and strongly feels that the benefits outweigh the risk. This is because using both together can cause muscle damage and possible kidney damage. because there are many other drugs for treating high cholesterol, he may want to use one of them.

My advice: Bring this possible adverse interaction worry to the attention of your treating physician. If he makes an informed decision based on the benefits outweighing the potential risk, then go ahead and take it.

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
