Does A Woman's Age Affect Her Fertility?

Question: Hi Doctor,
I am 34 and my wife turned 32 a month ago. We got married in the month of September 2016.
There is no history of diabetics in my family history.About her family history. Both her parents are diabetic. At present my wife is healthy and fit. My Questions are
1.Can I postpone the pregnancy for an year from now.
2. If I do so will it be very difficult for her to conceive, because of her age , because I am aware that chances of conceiving reduces since she is already 32 .
3.Is there risk in pregnancy or anything else related to pregnancy which we need to be aware of because of her mom and dad being diabetic ?

Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
1. If possible, avoid postponing the pregnancy. 32 is high time to plan a baby.
2. Fertility potential reduces with the age of the female. At 25, she would be having high fertility potential, which reduces with each year. So yes, at 32, she may face difficulty in conceiving.
3. She has a high chance of developing pregnancy related diabetes. She should make sure she is not overweight and has the right food choices to reduce the risk of developing this complication.
All the best.
PLease feel free to discuss further.

What should I do to confirm that she is not overweight and to find the right food choices to reduce the risk of developing this complication and what should
be her ideal health condition at this age to increase her chances of conceiving ?
